A little about me

I write funny, thoughtful and deep books for children. All my jobs and studies have revolved around children. I started babysitting at age ten, studied child development at The University of Minnesota, and earned a Master’s in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. After years of working as a teacher, a therapist for children, and a mother, I followed my dream to be a writer and graduated from Hamline University with an MFA in Writing for Children in July 2019.

My three sons never fight, eat only leafy green vegetables, and love picking up dog poop. (Sometimes I write what I wish were true).  Other times, I write what I know is true, in the simplest terms possible. If you see me off trail hunting berries, don’t worry.  I know which ones are poisonous and always pick enough huckleberries and thimbleberries to share. I’ll be the one belting out showtunes.
